Our memories of Mike from Ray & Maggie Walsingham

Created by Raymond 3 years ago

My wife and I first met Mike when he and Christine moved into our Close in Rayleigh on 1 April 1976. Shortly after their move Chris suffered a stroke which left her with limited use to her left side. They both continued to bring up their lovely girls without any fuss and in all that time Mike never complained on the difficulties his family were facing.

Mike and I played golf together for over 40 years, twenty years at Three Rivers Golf Club and thereafter with the Phoenix Golf Society. Mike was Captain at both Three Rivers GC and the Phoenix GS during this time.

He was a fierce competitor on the golf course, most particularly when playing other members of the Lane family.

In the later years when he developed Parkinsons Disease he continued to play under all conditions and his commitment to the Society was total. He was always generous to all and was very highly regarded by the members.

A life well lived by a gentleman whose perseverance and strength of will should be a lesson to us all.
